May 17, 2012 -- Emporia State baseball Joe Vaskas has earned his second all-region honor of the week as he was named first team All-South Central Region by Daktronics. He adds this to the NCBWA First Team All-Region honor he earned earlier this week and will now be placed on the ballot for All-American. It marks the second straight season he earned first team honors from both the NCBWA and Daktronics. 
 
Vaskas, who was also first team All-MIAA, hit .358 and had a team leading ten home runs. He drove in 50 runs and had a .660 slugging percentage with 18 doubles.

Eric Dawson and Joe Vaskas earned first team All-South Central Regional honors from the NCBWA released on Tuesday, May 15. Vaskas is a repeat first teamer after earning the honor last season for the Hornets. Emporia State, Central Missouri and St. Mary's were the only teams to have two players earn first team honors. 
 
Dawson, who was named first team All-MIAA, hit .380 with one home run and 31 runs driven in. He scored 35 runs and had 11 doubles for the Hornets. 
 
 The Hornets finished the season 26-22 and were fifth in the MIAA.
