April 3, 2013-The Emporia State women’s tennis team rolled to their third straight win with an 8-1 victory at Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon.  With the win the Hornets improve to 12-4 on the year and 5-3 in the MIAA.

The Hornets swept the doubles competition and took all five completed singles matches.  Taylor Smith and Jennifer Gerhadt won 8-4 at #1 singles in their first pairing at the top spot. The #2 team of Alex Crowe and Kayla Fraley won 8-1 while Somer Schmidt and Tiffany Khounsombath swept #3 doubles.

Emporia State won all five singles matches completed in straight sets.  Gerhardt at #3 and Fraley at #6 did not drop a game in their matches while Crowe won 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles.  Khounsombath took #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win and Schmidt picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles. The only win for the Blue Tigers came as Smith retired at #1 singles with a 5-4 lead in the first set at #1 singles.

The Hornet women are back in action this weekend as they host Ft. Hays State and Neb.-Kearney on Friday and Saturday at the EHS Courts.  The Emporia State men will host Washburn on Thursday at the Milton Courts.
