February 9, 2017-The Emporia State men's cross country team earned All-Academic honors while Emily Schoenfeld of the Hornet's women's cross country team was named an individual All-Academic performer by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today.
The Hornet men compiled a team GPA of 3.19 and placed 17th out of 25 teams at the NCAA Central Regional Championships. Teams must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and must have scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for All-Academic awards. Emporia State was one of seven MIAA men's teams to earn the All-Academic team honor.
Schoenfeld has a 3.96 GPA in psychology and placed 12th overall at the Central Regional Championships. The individual All-Academic honor is awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships. She was one of 26 women from the MIAA to earn the individual honor.
